Strategic Plan 2010 - 2012
EPAC Strategic Plan 2010-2012
Our Vision and Mission
EPAC envisions a world where people and organizations behave ethically and responsibly.
EPAC's mission is to help create and sustain ethical organizations, with a focus on assisting people in organizations to make ethical decisions.
Our Ethical Values
EPAC will uphold the following values in society and in its own operations, and encourage all individuals connected with EPAC to do the same:
1. Have the courage to act with integrity and stand up for the public good.
2. Take responsibility to lead and act ethically and help others to do so as well.
3. Respond willingly to positive change, and champion the growth of knowledge and wisdom.
4. Respect people in all their diversity and encourage living in harmony.
5. Be guardians of democracy and civil society.
6. Act with transparency except when privacy or confidentiality are the more ethical choices.
Our Goals
1. People will have increased awareness of ethics, morals and ethical practices.
2. People will do the right thing when making choices in situations that involve ethical questions.
3. Organizations will be made up of people with ethical knowledge and tools as well as integrity.
Our Strategic Directions
1. EPAC will increase its knowledge of market needs in order to effectively design and communicate programs, tools and events, by:
a. Conducting a market needs review or analysis;
b. Continuing to scan the environment for changes to the market needs; and
c. Engaging ethics practitioners throughout Canada and beyond in discussions about strategic choices for future programs, tools and events.
2. EPAC will develop tools to enhance ethical behaviour in organizations, including:
a. Creating Basic Framework and Guidance for Ethics;
b. Providing guidance for ethical decision making; and
c. Developing tools identified as needed most by the market needs review or analysis.
3. EPAC will convene communities of people interested in discussing and learning more about organizational ethics by:
a. Convening people in person (e.g. in workshops) to build awareness, provide education and network about ethical challenges and programs;
b. Shaping conversations through themed social media; and
c. Developing academic partnership(s) and programs to improve the quality of post-secondary ethics education.
4. EPAC will continue to recreate and revitalize EPAC itself through:
a. Recruiting a new generation of volunteers to help implement this Strategic Plan and prepare to lead EPAC in the near future;
b. Updating the alliance with the Quebec chapter to most effectively leverage resources and make participation meaningful;
c. Updating and maintaining communications with ethics practitioners;
d. Carrying out revenue generation activities to enable significant EPAC activities and reduce or eliminate reliance on membership dues;
e. Reviewing the role of membership and member benefits in the EPAC of the future;
f. Applying leading edge governance thinking to the operations of the organization;
and
g. Providing accurate and timely financial information against budget to board and members.
A Note on EPAC’s Focus
EPAC will not engage in partisan activities, nor will EPAC focus its efforts on direct help to individuals outside of organizations or children, or on bioethics or religious ethics. EPAC will be open to considering all types of participation and collaborations, and will make its online tools and resources available to all as much as possible. EPAC will operate primarily in Canada but strive for international influence.
Review Commitment
The Strategic Plan will be reviewed whenever emerging changes seem significant, and the three-year rolling plan will be updated at least annually. The EPAC Board will monitor progress at all meetings.
