Our Vision and Mission
EPAC envisions a world where people and organizations behave ethically.
EPAC’s mission is to maintain a community of individuals promoting ethical behaviour in organizations in Canada.
Our Values
EPAC will uphold the following values in society and in its own operations, and encourage all individuals connected with EPAC to do the same:
1. Have the courage to act with integrity, stand up for the public good and be a guardian of democracy and civil society.
2. Take responsibility to respond ethically to our changing world, embrace accountability, and help others to do so as well.
3. Be a leader in promoting ethical knowledge, wisdom, and competency.
4. Respect all people and encourage collaboration in building a more peaceful and sustainable world.
5. Act with transparency while respecting legitimate privacy and confidentiality concerns.
Our Strategic Directions
1. EPAC will create learning opportunities about organizational ethics by
a. Planning, designing and delivering an annual series of education workshops
b. Mapping existing educational and organizational resources and programs to identify potential gaps that EPAC could fill, as well as
potential speakers and partners for education purposes
c. Convening learning/discussion spaces to share knowledge/ask questions
d. Exploring and developing a resource on best practices in training (ethics curriculum)
e. Convening an open national conference on ethics approximately every three years
2. EPAC will increase its engagement with members and with other compatible organizations by
a. Developing and implementing a recruitment and retention strategy, with emphasis on
• Broadening membership and participation geographically
• Increasing memberships from young professionals and encouraging lifelong careers and interest in ethics
b. Developing a partnership strategy including marketing, member recruitment, joint programming, sponsorship and sharing of services
c. Identifying potential partner organizations and holding preliminary discussions with them
d. Assisting other committees in establishing partnerships for purposes in their domains
3. EPAC will offer resources to build ethics-related knowledge and skills by
a. Identifying resource needs of practitioners and members through periodic surveys and other feedback
b. Conducting environmental scans to identify key issues, practices and trends
c. Developing ethics materials/resources for a member-based web site
d. Researching and facilitating the sharing of practical resources and tools
4. EPAC will improve its engagement of members, practitioners and stakeholders by
a. Using EPAC survey results and member feedback to inform the content and format of our communications
b. Conducting a branding exercise that engages EPAC members
c. Developing a marketing and communications strategy
d. Developing a suitable editorial policy for EPAC communications
e. Establishing new communications vehicles to engage interested persons, circulate materials and provide news
f. Starting communities of interest to explore best/good practices
g. Advertising workshops and educational opportunities
h. Create relevant and engaging media content
5. EPAC will continue to re-create and revitalize itself by
a. Recruiting volunteers to support strategic plan implementation and ongoing activities
b. Providing ongoing Board training and development
c. Carrying out meaningful Board succession planning and renewal
d. Enhancing financial reporting to the Board and members
e. Developing and implementing a revenue generation strategy
Our Review Commitment
The Strategic Plan will be reviewed whenever emerging changes seem significant, and the three-year rolling plan will be updated at least annually. The EPAC Board will monitor progress at all meetings and manage risk appropriately.
